Composition: President and Cabinet

Function: Implements the laws that are made.

The President:
• H.E Hifikepunye Pohamba
• Is the Head of State;
• Is the Commander-in-Chief of the Defence Force;
• Is in charge of the Executive branch of government;
• Is elected directly by the people of Namibia for a 5-year term of office, restricted to 2 terms (with the exception of the first President who, by Namibian Constitution First Amendment Act, 1998, may hold office for 3 terms);
• Appoints the Prime Minister
• Establishes ministries and appoints ministers to control them;
• May be removed from office if he disregards the Constitution and contravenes the law.
